As an upcoming artist, truth be told you have no friend, but this doesn't make everyone your foe. There are several challenges that come with choosing a career in the entertainment scene, more especially in the music factory, but I must say to you that lucky for you the society has created a market for music, hereby making it a commodity to ease out the everyday stress. Music has provided, is providing and will still provide a way out of poverty for many artistes. You are definitely bound to face a lot of challenges the prime of which is yourself. There are times when all hopes will be lost, times you will regret to have chosen this path, days you will lose hope and belief in yourself and your chosen career, times you will think the world is about to drop on your head, but my candid advice is that you keep on pushing, stay steady. Everything might choose not to work out, please just give it a try.
Another challenge you are bound to face is from your 'supposed' fan(s) at a point in your career you will think and feel you deserve and should be getting more credit for your craft, but this might just not be forth coming, this happens. You probably just aint there yet. Keep pushing on. Do not try to impress anyone, just do good music. At that time when everyone stops believing, let me be quick to remind you that you will always have that singular fan which is yourself. At the point when you still have that fan, no hope lost at all, just keep moving.
Producers will shun you probably because of their busy schedules, your financial incapability or you just not fit into their kind of production, this is very much expected and understandable. I must confess to you that before a producer becomes renowned, he must have been through a lot as there is no pure gold without the test of fire, and they also got bills to pay too. Although you might just think some fees are outrageous, but my dear friend it comes with the game. Although a couple of you are bad mannered, a good approach could just do it for you. These people are human too. Even with all positives from you, you might get shunned by a couple of them, don't lose hope, there is a producer somewhere who wants to work with you. It's a long road, take the walk.
Getting your song on a good schedule on radio is no child's play. This has become a very tasking bid. It takes a lot more than good music these days. It has become highly political and cost intensive.
Even when you get despised and publicly humiliated by famous OAPs, my dear artiste it's not Christ's second coming, it's only another hurdle on the track. For as long as you do good music, with a strong belief and passion in what you do, you'll get there. This might just take a little longer than expected, amidst all these keep trying.
I know you want to be friends with established artistes. You ask for a follow back on twitter, you tweet your links at them hoping for a retweet, send mails and SMS, some even make phone calls to them, but you hardly get any response. Truth be told, these people went through the same thingor probably worse. This is not a justification of their behaviour thought, but remember that they got a busy schedule too. Brands to meet, rehearsals, family, business and other engagements. They might just not see all of these things you do. When the expected responses don'tcome from these already established acts, it doesn't mean nothing, it just means you need to try harder.
After recording that great song in the studio, you just throw it at bloggers. This is a very wrong approach. My dear friend, you need to set up a team. You need a manger and a PR. In my little experience, I have come to a realization that human relation is a virtue, some people are just wired to know how to keep up with others and relationships. Get that individual who can handle your public and media matters. Often times you just expect to throw your song at bloggers and it'sjust on their site, its not done that way. These people got bills to. Their websites and blogs are investments, and at the same time, it's their property, they decide what goes up there. At thoseinstances when you hope to have your song on theestablished websites and they aint there, just keep on pushing.
On a final note, one major challenge you all lay emphasis on is FINANCE. YES! The game has changed phase. It is now highly capital intensive. When you can't seem to get a job or sponsor, cultivate the saving habit. Stop the clubbing and unnecessary spending. You are definitely going to need cash to keep up this game.
Don't give up, work hard and be unique..!
